April What?

Believe it or not, I got a couple shocking events this past weekend.  While watching the drawings for that $91M Powerball jackpot, I discovered I had four numbers and the Powerball number on my ticket.  Then I got this phone call about a proposal.

I hope you know where I am heading with this.  That’s right, the theme for this week is about “April Fool’s Day.”  Do you have a funny story or memory about a prank you may have pulled or may have been pulled on you?

My problem in pulling off a practical joke during April Fool’s Day is that I can’t keep a straight face.  I know I have pulled a few pranks that worked but can’t seem to remember them at the present time.

The only one that comes to mind occurred back in 1990 while working for a computer repair company.  Someone came out with a non-damaging program that tells the user that it detected water in the hard drive.

Another technician and I decided to pull a prank on the secretary.  While she was out to lunch, we reprogrammed her computer so that when she turned it on this program would start up first.  Then we poured a small bit of water next to the computer.

When she turned on the computer, the program came up.  She started to panic especially when she saw the water beside the computer.  She claimed that she never allowed anyone near her computer with any liquid.

The way the program works is that after it tells the computer operator that water is detected, it goes through a spin cycle.  This includes a whirling sound that accompanies the spin up of a floppy drive and hard drive. Then came the gurgling of water going down a drain.  Then the program would declare the computer dry and then allow the start up program to complete.

Like I said, I am unable to keep a straight face for too long so she soon realized that this was a prank.  I am just thankful she turned out to be a good sport.

As for the Power Ball numbers, I won $3 for getting the Powerball.  All the other numbers were on different lines.  As for the phone call, it was the wrong type of proposal (Big Grin). April Fools.
